Brigitte Reimann

This is for now my last drawing, in few days I will be returning to work after a long (hopefully last one) lockdown, therefore I do not believe I will be as dedicated to my hobby as I have been lately.

The subject of this portrait is Brigitte Reimann (1933-1973), an East German writer and teacher. For the drawing I used charcoal and pastel pencils and a picture found on Google.

The words in the drawing, from I have No Regrets-Diaries 1955-1963/ Burg 24.10.55, are the following:

"We have to be careful not to let the bureaucrats water down our ideas or let the fanatics- basically anarchists- incite us to mass murder( I also mean intellectual and spiritual mass murder); we have to be careful that "our idea" remains pure and that people keep their basic rights, freedom in every respect, (...) intellectual freedom and in everyday life, as long as they don`t preach war and murder in any form."
